Call for Applications for Admission into Undergraduate Academic Programs — Academic Year 2026-2027

The University of Rwanda (UR) informs prospective applicants who wish to apply for admission into UR Undergraduate academic programs to be offered in Academic Year 2026-2027 in all its seven (7) Colleges and the Rwanda Institute for Computing (RIC), that the online application system will be opened effective from 22nd September 2026 to 05th October 2026.

I. Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements specific to each Undergraduate academic program offered by the University of Rwanda are published on the UR Website alongside this call for applications. It is worth mentioning that the University of Rwanda academic programs are very competitive with limited places; hence, admissions are offered on the basis of its absorption capacity and applicants’ academic merit (Performance in Advanced Level National Examinations, or as appearing on Equivalence Certificate).

II. Guidelines for Applications

Before starting the application process, make sure you have your personal email address that you easily access, your valid National ID, and your personal mobile number.

Applications are submitted online by taking the following steps:

Step 1: Generating the UR Reference Number

  1. Applicants are requested to access the University of Rwanda Online Application Portal through the following link: https://applications.ur.ac.rw/
  2. Applicants who completed Senior Six from Rwanda should enter their Senior Six Index Number. The system will automatically retrieve the available information corresponding to their National Examination results from NESA. Applicants should review the displayed information, complete the remaining required fields, and submit. Upon successful submission, the UR Reference Number and PIN will automatically be generated and sent to the applicant’s personal email address.
  3. International applicants, as well as Rwandan applicants who completed their studies under an international education system or foreign education system and have obtained an official Equivalence Certificate, should as well complete the online application form. Upon successful submission, the UR Reference Number and PIN will be generated and sent to the applicant’s email address.

Step 2: Submission of Application

  1. For applicants who have completed Senior Six from Rwanda; their Senior Six results obtained from the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) will be retrieved and displayed in the application system.
  2. Based on the applicant’s Senior Six combination, all eligible programmes will be displayed in the online system for the selection of your preferred programs. Each applicant is allowed to select up to three (3) programs of their choice.
  3. Application can only be submitted after the required application fee has been received and reflected in the online system.
  4. Applicants may change their selected programs during the application period, provided that the changes are made before the application deadline.
  5. International applicants, as well as applicants holding equivalence certificates, are required to upload all relevant supporting documents, including Equivalence Certificate, Senior Six Certificate, Copy of Passport, or National ID (for Rwandan applicants).
  6. Upon successful submission of your application, the applicant will receive a notification by email together with a confirmation letter.
  7. Applicants are encouraged to follow the step-by-step application guidelines and other detailed information available at: https://applications.ur.ac.rw/

Step 3: Payment of Application Fee

  1. A non-refundable application fee of Frw 5,000 is applicable to Rwandan and EAC citizens, while international applicants are required to pay Frw 6,000.
  2. Payment should be made through the Urubuto System using the applicant’s UR Reference Number as the Payer Code. Applicants should make the payment of application fee through one of the following channels: Bank of Kigali (BK) counter, MTN Mobile Payment using *775*5# and follow instructions, or using the BK App on internet banking, or online payment through the link https://urubutopay.rw/pay-now?origin=internal, with merchant code “TH77306981” (UR’s code), and the Payer Code being the applicant’s Reference Number.

Applicants are advised to ensure that the UR Reference Number is correctly entered when making the payment to facilitate proper identification and processing of the application up to submission.
